Overview
The MetaRheinMain Chaosdays will take place from the 14th of September to the 16th in the Technical University of Darmstadt. The MRMCDs are an annual congress, organized by a regional subgroup of the Chaos Computer Club. Topics are all themes related to Information-Security. In these three days we provide a hackcenter, lectures and discussions.
Lecture topics
We search contributors for talks and workshops with subjects which concern the general public, but also specified interests. In this manner the scientific binding and the relation to the current public discourse should be protected. The following main focuses form the spine of the congress:
Voting machines, electronic
Voting machines are still black boxes, already various manipulation possibilities were pointed out in the past. Their use leads to problems in the technical-social sphere and endangers our democracy. The lectures should dedicate themselves to the avoidance and the technical overcoming of the choice machines.
Supervision
By CCTV started, about stock storage of connecting data up to their evaluation this main focus offers extensive subjects for treatment. The technical implementation offers its challenges, just like the protection of the private sphere.
Cryptography
The symbiosis from technical practice and mathematical theory forms the core of this topic. The implementation of cryptographic algorithms is provided with pitfalls, their security in view of new researchs questioned in the long-term. At the same time however the importance of opensource and commercial cryptographic applications rises; is it to avoid monitoring or to protect from industrial espionage. The topics reach from identity management over encrypted communication up to the security of Web services. Thus this emphasis offers place for example books, just like for papers.
IT Security
Applied IT security is the subject of the last main focus. Operating systems and applications are examined for their strengths and weak points. Under the subject IT security talks on fragmented packets, injected code or MP3 worms on one side, as well as Firewalls, hardened operating systems or Honeypots on the other side can be offered. In particular new attack vectors, like the evolution of worms and preventive actions, hit on the open ears of the professional audience.
Delivery data
Abstracts of the works must be submitted up to 24.07.2007. The evaluation of the Abstracts takes place until 7.08.2007, at which all submitting authors are informed via email. The chosen works must be submitted to 25.08.2007 as complete paper. The delivery of the Abstracts takes place in Pentabarf.
